Disney CGI, but no Pixar?! Sounds pretty risky to me, but here comes Bolt the Super Dog to the rescue!...
Yep, this is a Disney film without Pixar, which at first I must admit concerned me a little. It's a CGI type affair (what film isn't these days?) and it actually is on a par with the magic that Disney and Pixar cook up!
Bolt is funny. Really, really funny. I haven't laughed that much in the cinema in a very long time. It has practically every element of comedy in it, ranging from simple falling over gags through to fairly complex ironies for the grown-ups. The real magic of Bolt however is that every single one of the jokes is funny, and not just chuckle funny, LOL funny.
The storyline is pretty good (if a bit predictable), but the characters are brilliant. Bolt (John Travolta) is a likeable hero, Mittens the cat (Susie Essman) is a great love interest and Rhino the hamster is possibly one of the funniest characters that has come out of Disney is yonks.
This film works on multiple levels, and will definitely enter into the halls of Disney's greats. If you've got children (or a childish sense of humour) go to see it. If you love hamsters, go and see it. If you love to laugh, go and see it.
Due to this films fantastic ability to make this young man laugh, it gets the second, rare five star JaD rating.
Another must-see film.
