This Weeks Playlist 10-7-09
Another week goes past and another Monkey Island themed week of game playing. The tennis fever has worn off and been replaced with adventure game fever mainly due to the release of Tales of Monkey Island this week.
Curse of Monkey Island (PC)
After finishing the first two Monkey Island games, I went on to play my favourite of the series, The Curse of Monkey Island. It is amazing to see how well the hand drawn cartoon graphics have held up after more than 10 years since its release. Even though I know all the solutions to the puzzles it is still really fun to play and hear the funny dialogue. The main highlight of the game is when the crew start singing the song on your ship, a very random moment of the game but still very funny.
A very fun game to play and still holds today, really enjoyed it.
Escape From Monkey Island (PC)
The final part of my look back at the Monkey Island games, I fired up the last full Monkey Island game. I will say now that this is my least favourite of the series as the humour doesn't seem as good and I don't like the 3D method of control as much. I played through the first part of the game where Guybrush has to stop his house getting demolished and recruit a crew and gain a ship to sail off to Lucre Island. Has some nice throwbacks to the original games but for some reason doesn't hold my attention as well as the other games.
So I'm afraid to say I didn't get to the end of this Monkey Island game but is still a fairly good game to play if you're looking for an adventure game to play.

1 Vs 100 (Xbox 360)
This Friday saw the UK release of 1 vs 100 on Xbox Live Primetime. Me and Alex checked it out and played the live show between 7:30 and 9:30. For an hour I was convinced we were part of the mob and winning the fake prizes however after a while Alex made me realise we were part of the crowd. For those who have not read my blog entry, 1 vs 100 is basically a quiz show played live with a host (even though we didn't hear the host) and is basically the closest you can get to a TV show on a games console, even including advert breaks.
Must say I had a lot of fun playing the game, it probably helped I was playing with someone I knew as it might have been a bit boring on my own. Got very much into answering the questions and pressing the action button really fast (was quite funny). If you've enjoyed Buzz! or any other quiz games you'll enjoy this. It is easy to pick up and if you're lucky enough to get into the mob you might win prizes.
It's a bit unfortunate that you can't play outside the allocated times as the application doesn't appear on the dashboard, but the live show element makes this more than a standard quiz show. It's free to play (for now) if you have an Xbox Live Gold subscription so if you like the sound of this pick it up and give it a go at the primetimes.
Well thats it for now, have a good week.
